December 19, 2025Grow Your Practice: A December Ode to Advisors

By Brian Bowen, Director of Advisor Integration

This issue of Grow Your Practice isn’t about actionable tips and proven strategies, but rather a dedication to advisors everywhere. As the year draws to a close, an appreciation for all you do the whole year through to help your clients achieve fulfillment.

Every December brings chaos and urgency. And there you are, displaying emotional endurance, wit, wisdom, patience. Never showing an ounce of stress, despite sending your fifth “gentle reminder” to the client that is yet to return the paperwork for that urgent account change they requested.

The inbox becomes a winter flurry. Clients arrive with the same delightful mix of earnestness
and mild panic that marks every December…

“Should I buy that new AI stock the podcaster all but swore would rewrite civilization?”

“Is now the perfect moment to switch everything to cash because it’s an election year… again?”

“Are there any legal ways to dodge capital gains taxes before the calendar flips?”

Advisors respond with patient mastery, guiding each question toward clarity rather than
calamity.

What outsiders rarely grasp is that beneath all the noise, most clients are really asking, “Is my family going to be okay?” Advisors know this. They hear it between the lines. And their work becomes the steadying force that lets people build, dream and sleep at night with a bit more ease.

This relationship is the fundamental pillar of our advisory world. It’s not the performance charts or rebalancing. It’s the trust — quiet, durable, hard-earned — that clients place in their advisors. They share secrets, hopes, vulnerabilities and the blueprint of their future. Advisors respond with a mix of technical prowess and emotional fluency that goes far beyond financial council. Guiding a household through decades of financial life is far closer to guardianship than it is to transactions.

And then there’s the annual ritual that advisers either celebrate or endure — predictions season. Writers and analysts summon conviction, declaring the market will rise, fall or possibly get run over by a reindeer. These forecasts are less prophecy than performance. Advisors know this. Clients suspect it. But the ritual comforts us all, if only because it says, “We’re in this together, and we’re paying attention.”

Meanwhile, artificial intelligence continues its year-long cameo as the topic clients cannot wait to bring up. They whisper about it like it’s a secret menu item…

“Will robots replace you?”

“Should I buy whatever powers the robots?”

“Is there an AI that will automatically fill out my taxes?”

Advisors handle it with practiced grace. They outline where AI helps, where it’s overhyped and why human judgment still towers over algorithmic enthusiasm. Data can be fast, but trust overcomes all.

Advisors know something the world sometimes forgets. People don’t come to them for charts. They come for interpretation, intuition and the calm presence that doesn’t flicker when the market does. AI may predict spending patterns, but it cannot read the tremor in a client’s voice when they ask if they’re still on track to retire while their parents’ health declines or their child’s tuition inevitably rises like the tide.

As we wrap up 2025, gratitude finds its way into even the busiest offices. In between RMD reminders, charitable gifting strategies and the ritualistic sorting of year-end statements, advisors witness milestones that would make even the most stoic number-cruncher pause.

A client sends a child to college. Another finally books the retirement trip they postponed for 20 years. A widow steps forward with courage and learns to navigate finances she never expected to manage alone. Advisors have a front-row seat to the raw, unvarnished humanity inside every financial plan.

And just as sentiment starts to warm the room, a client inevitably emails a screenshot of a penny stock with a name resembling a corporate buzzword bingo card. Balance restored.

Advisors rarely chase recognition, but they deserve far more than they get. Day after day, they translate market static into clarity. They absorb worries, correct misconceptions, and gently guide families toward decisions that compound into dignity and security. Their patience could power a small AI server farm. No, that is not a reco!

Advisors’ steadiness turns volatility into narrative instead of noise. And their presence — warm, grounded, relentlessly human — remains the antidote to uncertainty.

The new year will arrive with its usual pageantry of fresh predictions, incoming regulations, new technology, market guesses and client proclamations based on late-night podcasts. Advisors will meet it all with the same blend of humor, pragmatism and unspoken courage that carries them through every cycle.

So, here’s to the professionals who keep the compass pointed true. To the advisors who turn financial planning into a kind of quiet artistry. To the ones who answer the same question six ways because the client needed to hear the comfort behind the words. To the ones who treat every household’s future as something worthy of reverence.

Raise a glass to yourselves. You’ve earned the celebration.
