Alano Massi didn’t have a mentor in finance, a family connection in the industry or a clear career roadmap. What he had was a question — and the drive to answer it.

Alano Massi grew up on the west side of Las Vegas, far from the Strip, in a family where attorneys set the professional standard. His mom was a teacher. His dad built a law practice. And almost everyone else in the family eventually followed some version of that same path.
Massi took a different one.
It started, as so many things do, with something small. Around the time he turned 16, he began noticing the ticker symbols scrolling across the bottom of the evening news… the arrows, the numbers, the abbreviations. The Dow. The NASDAQ. The S&P.
“What is that, Dad?” he asked.
His father knew enough to explain. And what stuck for Massi was just how important it was to understand how it all worked. “I have to know this,” he remembers thinking. “If I don’t know this, I’m going to rely on somebody else to know it.”
That instinct — to understand money rather than simply defer to someone else about it — became the engine of his career.
Building the Foundation
Massi studied at the University of San Diego, then moved to Los Angeles after graduating in 2006. He went on to earn a master’s in finance from Pepperdine University, but his first real education in the field came before any classroom: through an internship at a small investment bank in Santa Monica.
The work was granular and unglamorous — reviewing private financial statements for companies that ranged from tightly run to, as Massi puts it, “not so good.” Learning to work through messy books and bring them into compliance gave him a foundation that most advisors never get.
From there, he moved into a credit analyst role at Wells Fargo Capital Finance, working with mid-size to large companies on asset-based lending. His job was to make sure their collateral was solid enough to support the loans. It was more time in the weeds of financial statements and more practice scrutinizing a company’s real performance against what looked good on paper.
Massi handles his own trades, manages his own investment models and conducts his own research. He then builds custom portfolios for every client to help withstand the unexpected.
“Being both an investment manager and a trusted resource – that’s the most important thing."
A Philosophy in Three Parts
Massi launched Palm Capital Management in Calabasas, Calif., in 2017, the same year he earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) certification. Like the sense of peace and strength palm trees provide to their surrounding landscapes, the firm’s namesake reflects its mission: to provide clients financial peace of mind.
He remains driven by the same thing that got him started: If you don’t understand how money works, someone else will understand it for you.
The firm Massi has built reflects a philosophy he’s refined over 13 years of advising: There are three ways to separate yourself in business — price, product and service.
Full Circle
Massi is 42 now and has been advising for 13 years. When he’s not serving as a trusted resource to his clients, he plays the drums and golf — both for about 20 years — enjoys classic movies and travels when his wife convinces him. (“I like seeing new places,” he said. “I just don’t like flying.”)
He remains driven by the same thing that got him started: the knowledge that if you don’t understand how money works, someone else will understand it for you.
The instinct to learn it himself, to manage it well, to endure market cycles alongside the clients he serves — that’s what has built his career. And it’s what he brings to every client who walks in the door.
