June 16, 2026How a Part-Time Job Redirected a Future Fund Manager Toward Something More Fulfilling

By Dynamic Staff

Cameron Juhnke once had his sights set on New York or Boston and a career managing funds behind a screen. While in college, a part-time job changed his course — and he’s never looked back.

Favorite pastime: Anything outdoors

Fun fact: He listens to vinyl and enjoys pottery

Walk-up song: Can’t Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Cameron Juhnke grew up in a small town in Kansas — suburban, not rural, though his father owned farmland in a neighboring town and contracted it out. It was, by his own description, a “pretty normal, small-town upbringing”: mom, dad, two older sisters and a lot of open sky.

His dad was a pilot, spending most of Juhnke’s childhood flying for Koch Industries before transitioning to corporate work for private individuals and smaller companies. The job came with occasional perks. There were a couple of excursions Juhnke got to tag along on — one to Las Vegas, another to the Cayman Islands. But a pilot career never sparked an aviation ambition in him, although his dad did try him out on flight simulators.

“Every time I would crash on the landing,” Cameron said, “putting a little too much fear in me to think about that seriously.”

Finding the Right (not Flight) Path

For a while, Juhnke wanted to be a paleontologist. As a kid, he loved dinosaurs. But by the time he reached high school he’d grown out of that early love and felt himself moving toward another type of career in the sciences. Perhaps medical school? Maybe astronomy? No one in Juhnke’s family — immediate or extended — worked in finance. The industry didn’t register until his senior year of high school, when he started thinking seriously about what to study in college. The exercise was practical: Where did his interests and skills align?

Math came naturally. He was organized, process-driven and methodical. So, he decided to major in finance and economics, which he studied at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. A portfolio management course sharpened his focus further — specifically, investment analysis. For a stretch, his plan was clear: move to New York or Boston, become a fund manager and go deep on the analytical side. Then a part-time job with a local financial advisor shifted everything.

Working directly with that advisor introduced Juhnke to the other half of the business: the client-facing, relationship-driven side he hadn’t considered. He soon found that’s where his true passion lies.

After college, Juhnke’s first full-time role was in a customer and advisor support call center. The job confirmed for him that helping people through difficult moments was genuinely fulfilling in a way that pure analysis wasn’t.

“I found a lot of joy in getting that call when someone is stressed out, and then by the end of the conversation, they’re fine,” he said. “Helping them through that journey is rewarding for me.”

The dream of becoming a fund manager quietly gave way to something more suited to his strong interpersonal skills.

Sink-or-Swim in a Supportive Culture

The financial advisor Juhnke worked for during college left a lasting impression, not just professionally, but also personally.

At 21, Juhnke was pulled into every corner of the business, including client meetings, conferences and a client dinner where he was asked to present. It was a sink-or-swim approach, but one with real support when he needed it.

“He bet on me,” Juhnke said.

What he observed was an advisor who operated more like a counselor — kind, direct when the situation called for it, and clearly committed to his clients. The example stuck.

What the Role Looks Like Now

Juhnke joined Dynamic in 2022 and has built his career across several roles — starting as a trader, moving into a team lead position, and now serving as Investment Operations Manager.

The role, he said, lets him stay in contact with nearly everything he’s been drawn to. His wife jokes that the trading side is like working a Sudoku puzzle all day, aligning portfolios and moving numbers into place. He still does some of that and enjoys it. But as a manager, his scope is wider: building processes, training new team members, problem-solving, and working with advisors on the more complex and creative challenges that arise.

“Come with prospects,” he said of how advisors engage with his team. “And we show them here’s how we can bring on this prospect and build a portfolio for them. It’s fun. Just to work through the complex stuff and try to get creative with it.”

Juhnke earned a Series 65 FINRA license, which reflects his commitment to continuing to develop on the technical side, even as his role has grown increasingly people focused.

When he zooms out and thinks about what he finds most meaningful in the work, the answer isn’t complicated.

“At the end of the day, the fulfillment isn’t seeing numbers line up on a screen,” he said. “It’s knowing I’m providing a good service to the advisors we work with.”

Outside the Office

Juhnke lives in Colorado Springs, which suits his love of the great outdoors. He enjoys hiking, kayaking, camping with his wife and running together. Yard work counts, too.

He plays guitar, listens to vinyl records and goes to concerts. He’s recently gotten into pottery. For someone who once thought seriously about becoming a fund manager in a big city, it’s a life built around different values: creativity, presence and connection. A favorite quote, from Andy Bernard on “The Office,” helps him stay present and enjoy life as it’s happening:

“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.”

It’s a fitting philosophy for someone who found his way into work that’s fulfilling and now shows up every day to make things easier for the people he serves.
